PCOS awareness progrmme

As September is PCOS Awareness Month 2022, it is one of the most common causes of infertility in women since Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a hormonal imbalance that interferes with a woman’s reproductive system. WEC organized a PCOS awareness programme for the adolescent girls of Shapur Village. WEC representative Ms. Dolvina Josheph explained that when any female have PCOS, her ovaries are larger than normal and can have many tiny cysts that contain immature eggs which create hindrances in conceiving. She told that September is PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) awareness month. PCOS affects women of reproductive age (15-49 years). Worldwide, it affects 4%–20% (8-40 crore) of women. In India, it affects 3.7% to 22.5% (1.3-7.9 crore) of women. She also explained that PCOS is not yet recognized as an important health problem. But prevention and early identification of PCOS is required to arrest, or even reverse, its increasing incidence rate.
