Introduction

“Movement and exercise are fundamental to leading a healthy, happy life whatever age you may be.”

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that works with people to identify and maximize their ability to move and function. It takes a holistic approach to health and wellbeing of an individual.. Physiotherapy is a profession concerned with the assessment, maintenance, and restoration of the physical function and performance of the body. The department laid its foundation by starting BPT in year 2000 with the sole purpose to impart quality education to the students. The department blossomed its buds from under graduation to post graduation in the year 2007.

Physiotherapy is useful in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of injuries and disease processes like conditions including sports injuries, spinal cord injuries, neurological & respiratory diseases, postural problems, rehabilitation following various surgeries and various geriatric and gynecological conditions. When used in conjugation with surgical treatment, it provides a speedy and complication-free return to normal activity.

The course provides several opportunities to the students for mutiaxial development mainly academic mental, physical and co curricular areas.Every year several activities are conducted by the department to encourage better learning for the students. Workshops, guest lectures, camps, awareness programmes, trainings, educational tours etc are conducted as per the academic calendar. Excellent job opportunities are present in both academic and clinical field in various educational institutes, super speciality hospitals, sports complex, rehabilitation centres, NGOs, clinical research centres in the country and abroad .

Dept. of Physiotherapy organized a guest lecture on ‘Myths of Indian Traditional Diet’. Dr. S. Kumar, (Ph. D), from ‘Appropriate Diet Therapy Center, Mumbai’ was invited as the key note speaker. He explained to the audience about the existing Myths of the Indian Traditional Diet & also cleared many doubts about routine diet by answering the questions raised by the gathering.

Department of Physiotherapy organized a guest lecture on the topic of ‘Future Opportunities in Hospital Management for Para – Medical Students’on 13th Feb. 2016. Dr. A.K. Agrawal, Retired Director from the School of Health Sciences, IGNOU, presently appointed as Dean, IHMR, Dwarka, Delhi was invited as the speaker. He guided the students regarding admission procedures, eligibility requirements & scope in the management field.

Dept. of Physiotherapy organized a Guest lecture on ‘Cancer Awareness’ in which various specialists such as Dr. Neelu Mehrotra, Consultant Surgeon on Oncology from Jawharlal Nehru Cancer Hospital, Bhopal, Dr. Amita Singh, Dietitian & Nutritionist, etc. educated the female faculties & students about Cancer, its causes, self examination, prevention & treatment.

She guided the students about types of research methodologies, how to choose a specific type of research, how to prepare thesis etc.

Educational Tour
An educational trip was organized by Department of Physiotherapy to ‘Composite Regional Center’ (CRC, Bhopal). Here, students learned about different day to day modifications which can be done for improving the lifestyle of physically disabled patients. Students were also taught how to manufacture Orthosis / Prosthetics according to fit on patient’s stump & their uses.

An educational tour was organized by the Dept. of Physiotherapy for the students of second, third and final years to attend the 54th Annual Conference of ‘Indian Association of Physiotherapist’at Shirdi, Maharshtra. 11 students, escorted by Dr. Saurav Singh Kushwah (PT) attended the conference from 19th to 23rd Feb. 2016. The students witnessed various scientific based programs, paper and poster presentations on new and advanced treatment techniques. The students and delegates updated their knowledge regarding modern equipments and trends in the field of treatment & research studies. All the students were overwhelmed by the exposure of recent trends in Physiotherapy in a competitive and learning atmosphere.

A marathon was organized with slogan “Run Bhopal Run” by Government of M.P., on the theme “Green Bhopal Clean Bhopal” on 4th Dec. 2016 at T.T. Nagar Stadium. World Aids Day
World Aids Day is observed on 1st Dec. 2017 every year, students of Dept. of Physiotherapy participated in the formation of Human Chain in Jaypee Hospital in order to spread the message for awareness for prevention of AIDS. They carried banners, charts with images and slogans for spreading awareness for prevention of AIDS Day.

State Level Workshop – Sacroiliac Dysfunction
Dept. of Physiotherapy conducted a state level workshop on “Sacroiliac Dysfunction.” Dr. Sanjiv Jha was invited as the guest speaker. He demonstrated various Manual Therapy Techniques which can be utilized to treat SI joint Dysfunction. Students who participated in this 2-day workshop got an opportunity to learn how to assess, diagnose & treat the patients with SI joint dysfunction.

First Aid
Department of Physiotherapy organized a ‘Short Term Module Course’ on ‘Basic First Aid’ in collaboration with Red Cross Society, from 8th March 2016 to 12th March 2016 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The students received basic training on the First Aid Management of various emergency conditions such as RTA, burns; causalities etc. Approx. 42 students attended the training program which included separate sessions for theory as well as practical classes. Students were given training on how to tie bandage, splinting, transfer and immobilization of various casualty patients.

Dept. of Physiotherapy organized a Seminar on the topic ‘Recent Advances in Orthosis’ on 15th September 2015. The speaker from ‘Dyna Surgical, Mumbai’ educated the students about recent trends in Orthotics & Prosthetics, latest rehabilitation aids available now a days and their benefit. Approx. 26 students had registered for the seminar. They gained knowledge about the latest 3D techniques being used to design the various Orthotics and their working principles.

In this workshop, he taught the students about the common sports injuries in upper and lower limb as well as their rehabilitation The workshop also provided hands on training session to the students for taping, MFR, Stretching and Sports Massage. The on - field sports management tips were also given to the students Approx. 68 students and therapists attended the workshop. The basic concept of dry needling was also taught to the students.

Basics of First Aid
Short Term Course - Basic First Aid - 16 Dec. 2017 Dept. of Physiotherapy organized a Short Term Course on “Basics of First Aid”, in collaboration with Red Cross Society. The 5 - days course was commenced on 12th Dec. 2017 & ended on 16th Dec. 2017. The students were given basic training as of how to attend a patient in an emergency condition when there is no medical aid available. Students also learned how to assess a patient in medical urgency. The students have explained the practical applications.

The Dept. of Physiotherapy invited Dr. Sanjiv Jha, Principal – Ujjain Institute of Paramedical Science, as a Guest Speaker for the National Workshop on the topic "CMT-Certificate in Manual Therapy". ANNUAL FUNCTION

Annual function of the college was organized on dates 12 – 13 April 2016. In this the students of department of physiotherapy participated in group dance, group song, solo song, spoon art, salad decoration, movie making. In these events, physiotherapy students bagged following prizes : The students who achieved 1st three ranks in collge and university were felicitated by trophies & prize money. While the students who bagged 1st three positions were felicitated with trophies

  • 1. Shalu Patel from BPT II year achieved I prize in long jump,100 m and 800 m race.
  • 2. Akhiyan Soni achieved 2nd prize in 500m race.
  • 3. Meenal Saikia achieved 2nd prize in intercollege debate competition held in MLB College.
