Nirbhaya ‘Self Defense Program’
Life of every individual is precious but unpredictable. Self-defense helps you to be prepared for unexpected situation and aids us to develop mental and physical health. Be protective, and try to protect others in adverse situations. In metro cities, like Mumbai and Delhi attacks on women are more common but it doesn’t mean that girls of small cities and village are safe. Every woman should take it as their responsibility to protect her-self from such unpredictable situations. By learning the basics of self-defense, you can protect yourself from dangerous and unforeseen circumstances. With keeping these facts in mind Women Empowerment Cell has initiated self defense program named as ‘NIRBHYA’ for girls to protect themselves and others from being a victim of circumstances. Activities included in the training session are: 1. Exercises for protecting themselves from strangers. 2. To protect themselves when stranded in a lonely or desolate place. 3. Kicking 4. Padding 5. Jumping 6. Running 7. Protecting them from assaulting agents like knife, stick, chains etc. 8. Protecting them from being gagged and tied by rope, duppata, saree etc. 9. Mock fight with boys.

WEC celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’ on 8th March 2016, On this occasion WEC organized various cultural activities like dance, play and also girls were dressed traditionally representing the different cultures of India. Chief Guest of the event was Ms Pragya Richa Shrivastava (ADG, PHQ, Bhopal). She motivated the students with her valuable thoughts. Career College also felicitated Ms Bhakti Sharma and Ms Poonam Shroti (both are among 100 woman achievers of India) for their remarkable work for social welfare.

Walkathon ‘For a Cause’
Walk A Cause- Jab Chalo Tab Savera In the early morning hours of 31st May 2018 thousands of Bhopalits including Career College and other college students, school children, homemakers, government officials, businessmen, social activists, and transgenders marched on the VIP Road of the city to express their concern for women safety. Walkathon of seven kilometers ‘Walk A Cause- Jab Chalo Tab Savera’ was organized by the Madhya Pradesh Police Department to spread the message of zero tolerance towards crime against women. Women Empowerment Cell also participated in the Walkathon Approx. 70 students of Career College participated in the event.

Self Defense Program ‘NIRBHYA’
In India, the cases of gender violence are increasing and it is very important for women in India to learn self-defense for their own safety and survival. The aim of self defense program ‘Nirbhaya’ is to prepare girls for any situation that may harm to them. This year along with ‘NIRBHYA’ WEC also organized a 7 days Self Defense Program from 21 March to 27 March 2018, in association with Pakhi Samajik Sewa Sanstha, NGO, more than 120 girls was benefited by the camp.

On 1st Dec 2017 Dept. of Biotechnology and Biochemistry, Women Empowerment Cell, NCC and NSS organized an AIDS Awareness Rally and a Nukkad Natak on the occasion of ‘World AIDS Day’ in Ekta Nagar Basti. People worldwide unite to fight against HIV/AIDS as this epidemic is spreading exponentially specially in developing and underdeveloped countries. The students participated in a rally and performed nukkad natak on the theme ‘Say No To HIV and AIDS’. The need of the hour is to create awareness about HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), raise money and also educate the masses about this disease, its symptoms, precautions to be taken and also about its prevention.

Dr. Sangeeta Singh (Gynecologist, Mrs. India Earth, (Mrs. Intelligence) and Social Activist) and students of Career College promoted a unique cause i.e. awareness in women about very personal hygiene during menstrual period. They not only interacted with the women of Ekta Nagar, but also educated the women on menstrual hygiene and PCOD. On this occasion Students also distributed sanitary napkins.

On 1st December 2018 Dept. of Biotechnology and Biochemistry and WEC in association of with Family Planning Association of India, Bhopal organized World AIDS day. Ms. Neha Dharmadhikari, Field Coordinator, Japan Trust Fund, Family planning, Shivaji Nagar, Bhopal along with our students and faculty members organized Nukkad Natak at Ekta Nagar Slum on the theme ‘Know your Status’. Students distributed red ribbons and sweets and explained how AIDS can be prevented and how HIV patients should be treated with humanity instead of being banned from the society. People appreciated the efforts and learned how HIV spreads and how AIDS can be prevented.

World Non Violence Day
2nd Oct 2018 is marked as ‘World Non-Violence Day’, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, Leader of the India’s Independence Movement and a pioneer of non-violence. To celebrate this event, WEC in association with Dept of Biotechnology and Biochemistry organized a Poster Competition on 1st Oct 2018 in which students participated in large numbers. It was based on the theme “Non-violence and World Peace”. Students participated and presented their posters with great enthusiasm. In this competition Nishu Singh BSc Biotech II year, Muskan Sahu of Bsc Biotech I year and Anjali Kadam Bsc Biotech II year bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd Position respectively. Consolation prizes were also given to Yash Kumar Mehra, Priyanshu Uikey and Sujeet Raikwar of BSC Biotech I year. Principal, Career College, Dr. P.N. Tiwari highly appreciated the efforts of the students and shared his views on non- violence and spreading peace. Principal Career College & School of Nursing Mrs. Soney Toppo was the judge of the competition she really appreciated the efforts and creativity of students. Students enjoyed and learned the role of nonviolence in maintaining peace and how to imbibe the same in their lives and spread peace everywhere.

September is observed as ‘Polycystic ovary Disorder (PCOD)’ awareness month. PCOD is a Hormonal Disorder in women and one of the most common reasons for Infertility among women. To spread awareness about causes, symptoms, Prevention and remedies Dept. of Biotechnology and Biochemistry and Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) organized an awareness program for girls of Govt. Mahatma Gandhi H.S. School, BHEL, Bhopal on 8th Sep. 2018, where Miss Tanuja Murab and Dr. Nidhi Gujar explained how to detect and prevent PCOD by natural means. Students of Govt. Mahatma Gandhi H S School interacted with the faculties and gained in-depth knowledge of this problem and its precautions that can prevent its occurrence.

Mahatma Gandhi Higher School, BHEL Bhopal. 40 students of Biotechnology and Biochemistry dept organized a Skit and Quiz on ‘Importance of Literacy and Skill development’ and distributed study materials, sweets and prizes to the winners. A total of 150 students of Govt. Mahatma Gandhi Higher School, BHEL Bhopal participated in the program. The Principal of the School Dr. Poonam Praksah Agrawal presented letter of appreciation to Dept. of Biotechnology and Biochemistry for enlightening the students for the importance of literacy.
